Filmed in the fall of 2019, I directed this short film to tell the story of the marine biologist Johnny Gaskell who has been using Google Maps to uncover and document rare underwater sinkholes known as "blue holes" in unexplored parts of the Great Barrier Reef.  These geological phenomena create ideal conditions for complex aquatic life and offer marine researchers new insights into how to help build and maintain healthy coral reefs.
